A variety of subject and career-focused virtual summer school programmes for students aged 10-13 and 14-17. Students can experience Bucksmore’s academic excellence, and interact with our international community even if students cannot travel to the UK this summer.

Courses Available :

Junior (10 – 13 years old)

• Coding
  Students are sent a Raspberry Pi (credit-card sized computer) before the course begins. Interactive classes with expert tutors will teach students how to code in Python. In Week 1, students will create an innovative app. In the second week, students will enter the AstroPi competition and create a programme for the International Space Station! Workshops are run by Computer Xplorers who are always popular with students when they run our Coding workshops in person on our summer schools.

• STEM
  Fun, engaging workshops led by expert tutors will introduce students to key scientific and engineering concepts. Students are sent a robotics kit before the programme begins. Students will complete a different project each week and will have the opportunity to build their own solar-powered robot. Workshops are run by Engineering and IT online training provider Semester Learning who work with companies including Siemens, GE, Amazon, Land Rover Jaguar and the NHS.

Senior (14 – 17 years old)

• Business and Sustainable Development
  Explore the future of business, looking at the interaction between business and sustainable development. Students are engaged with workshops delivered by the world-famous innovative green business, The Eden Project. They also explore how to launch and operate a new venture through business enterprise project work delivered by Bucksmore tutors.

• Coding
  Develop advanced programming skills. In collaboration with Codeworks, leading international providers of coding boot camps, students will build an Instagram Clone and learn to code their own app on this exclusive online course created for Bucksmore.

• Leadership
  Led by experienced international figure Kathie Knell MBE, this course is a careers-focused online summer course for students who want to lead change in the world. Students explore leadership styles, management planning, communication, branding, organisation culture and personal growth strategies. Students will develop a charity fundraising project and launch a new product.

• Medicine
  for students interested in the medical profession. Students will be taught by Dr Jake Adams, a current doctor with experience in a mix of medical and surgical roles, General Practice and in the Emergency Department. The course will cover provide a wide-ranging introduction to medicine including anatomy, diagnosis, ethics, grey cases and will look at specific parts of the body – the heart, brain, lungs, abdomen.

  Studying mechanical engineering in week one and electrical engineering in week two, students will develop their understanding of areas such as mechanical drawing, structural strength, electrical structures and power circuits. They will apply their knowledge through practical workshops and group projects such as Engineering Project Management led by our partner Semester Learning.
