Guardianship
The UK is very concerned about the safety and welfare of international students. Therefore it is a legal requirement that international students under the age of 18 need a guardian throughout their study in the United Kingdom. The caregiver must be a resident of the UK and it is divided into 4 types of cases:
- Case 1: Parents, relatives, friends or acquaintances who reside in the UK and are not far away from school. Able to travel to school in the event of a meeting or emergency. The person must be responsible and trustworthy to take care of the students well.
- Case 2: Some schools offer parenting services. Guardianship is available for international students depending on the school they choose.
- Case 3: The agency which provides guardianship service to students are qualified and approved by the schools in United Kingdom. The agency also provides facilities for students including airport transfers. The host family provides students with accommodation for during mid-term holiday or during school holidays. Currently, British Government schools and agency are working together to ensure that all international students receive the best possible care. There are numbers of companies which have undergone examinations and have been recognized as a quality agency for international students. However, parents should check the details thoroughly before making a decision as each company offers different services and fees.
- Case 4: The Office of Educational Affairs (OEA) is a division of the Office of the Civil Service Commission. A Thai agency in England. It has a duty to provide advice, help and solve problems related to education and living standard of students. The location is at 28 Princes Gate, London, SW7 1PT.
