Philosophy
Tonbridge School is one of the leading boys’ boarding schools in the country and highly respected internationally, was founded in 1553.
Most of Tonbridge’s 800 boys join the school at age 13 in the First Year (Year 9), but we also accept a smaller entry into the Lower Sixth (Year 12) at the start of A level courses and into the Second Year (Year 10). Around 60% of the boys are boarders, who are broadly geographically spread, with significant numbers coming from London, the home counties and further afield.
The Pastoral System at Tonbridge is based around a very strong House system, clear expectations and strong and positive relationships between boys, staff and parents. Fostering an atmosphere in which all members of the community look out for each other is at the heart of all that we do.
Curriculum and Qualifications
During Year 9 (the Novi year) Tonbridge boys select the optional subjects which they wish to study to GCSE level.
Boys study GCSE in Year 10 and 11 and select their Sixth Form subjects when they are in Fifth Form (Year 11).
Students study A-Level in Sixth Form.
Location
Tonbridge School sits firmly at the heart of Tonbridge town which is a historic market town well known for its culture and heritage. London is approximately 1 hour by train.
