Rossall School

Philosophy

Rossall School is one of the country’s leading independent co-educational boarding and day schools, in a picturesque and historic setting on the Lancashire coastline. Facilities

Set on an historic 160-acre campus along the magnificent Lancashire coastline, it’s the only school in the UK with its own Space Science & Astronomy Centre. Other facilities of note are a brand new cookery kitchen, and a state-of-the-art design and technology studio. Its impressive Harry Potter-style dining hall was described by F.A.M Webster in his book, Our Great Public Schools, as “one of the most splendid in the country”. Rossall School also features a gymnasium, an indoor pool, climbing wall and tennis courts, in addition to outdoor tennis and squash courts, shooting and archery ranges, an AstroTurf hockey pitch and a mile-long private beach.

Curriculum

Pupils can choose to study the world-renowned International Baccalaureate Diploma, A Levels or the BTEC National Diploma in Design at Sixth Form. Rossall has been teaching the I.B. Diploma for over ten years and the pass rate now exceeds world average. The I.B. Diploma is growing in popularity with local students as well as international students.
Curriculum at Nursery, Infants and Junior School (ages 3-11) The Junior School is one of only ten schools in the UK authorized to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The programme starts in our Nursery school at age three and continues through to the end of Junior School.

Philosophy

Glenalmond College is a boarding coeducational school, open to students aged 12-18 years. Founded in 1847, it is located on an approximately 300 acres of land. Moreover, 70% of students are British and 30% are international students.

Curriculum and Qualifications

GCSE and A-Level courses are available. Students in the GCSE program will take 8-9 courses with core subjects along with a wide range of elective subjects. The school also offers over 25 elective courses and EAL (English as an additional language) courses for international students.

Academic Achievement

In 2016, a total of 48% of our students who studied GCSE scored A* – A and 55% of our A-Level students scored A*-B.

Philosophy

Abingdon School is a leading private school with a history of over 750 years. The school campus is a large area of about 35 acres and offers excellent academic standards for students from 11 to 18 years old. The school encourages students to succeed in their studies and their GCSE and A-Level examinations. The results of student’s examination from Abingdon School are impressive and most continue to successfully receive placement at the University of Oxford and Cambridge. Students have the option to stay at the school dorms or stay with host families. The school coordinates and co-teach with an all-girls school nearby (St Helen and St Katherine), especially for the Sixth Form. The schools also work together for community services.

The school offers GCSE and A-Level subjects. For GCSE, students would choose to study 10 subjects from the many subjects offered by the school. For A-Level, students would study 4 subjects out of which there are 3 electives and mathematics is a mandatory subject.

Philosophy

Philosophy

Moyles Court School is well-established with a history of more than 50 years as a school and is housed in a 16th Century Manor house within the beautiful New Forest National Park. It is a day and boarding co-ed school taking pupils from 2½ to 16 years. It offers individualised learning, affordable fees and traditional core values developed by a dedicated team led by Headmaster Richard Milner-Smith.

It is a school with a high academic standing as evidenced by ranking 40th overall in the Times Parent Power Schools Guide for Small Independents (23rd in a specific comparison with other mixed/co-ed schools). A small number of scholarships are available to outstanding students.

Location

The school is located close to Ringwood, a market town near the south west coast of England. It is close to all major rail and road links and within 1 ½ hours to international airports. Whilst benefitting from being near the transport links the school is in a peaceful 14 acre setting, surrounded by woodland streams, lakes and forest ponies. It is a safe and beautiful rural environment in which to live and study.

Class sizes are small and the average class size is 15. In the Senior School, Years 7-9 students follow a broad and balanced curriculum that provides a strong foundation for GCSE, which is studied in Y10 & Y11.

For International students, the school can offer intensive English support in the form of additional English lessons that sit alongside their academic programme of study. The small class sizes allow teachers to provide a high level of individualised care and attention for every child. Moyles Court provides an all-round education which comprises of both excellent academic teaching and a wide variety of extra-curricular activities.

Academic Achievement

The excellent teaching and individualised learning environment enables all pupils to make huge academic progress. The school is always immensely proud of our pupils’ GCSE results each year where excellent performance, significant ‘value added’ and achievement across the full ability range and beyond is a treasured characteristic of annual success. In recent years the GCSE results have seen an increasing number of pupils achieving A* and A grades. For example, an international student from Hong Kong recently achieved 8 A*’s, 3 A’s and one B grade to secure an Academic Scholarship at Gordonstoun, a top Independent school in the UK.

The school has also been recently recognised by the ISA (independent Schools Association) for ‘excellence in the Arts’ following consistently high results in Art, Design and Technology, Textiles and Photography.

Accommodation and care

The boarding environment at Moyles Court School aims to provide a welcoming and supportive setting where boarders can flourish and develop within a safe campus environment. Boarders are given opportunities to develop a positive attitude to study, and also to be aware of how important it is to contribute to their local community. Support of other boarders is strongly encouraged and students of all ages develop solid bonds with each other and also with the Houseparents’, which can last for many years after they leave Moyles Court.
